Peter Hopley (SH 47-52).
        
          Peter’s son, Stuart, has  provided the following:
          
          “Peter  was born in Maryport on 29th June 1935, the eldest of two boys to  Dennis and Phyllis Hopley. Soon after, the family moved to Whitehaven and Peter  and his brother David then attended St Bees School where he was a pupil from  1947 to 1952.
Peter  was a keen and successful sportsman and represented the school at rugby, cricket  and golf. He played for the first teams in all these sports and spent the rest  of his life following his passion for sport which was so well nurtured at  school. Peter shared a study with Bryan Pringle the famous screen and stage  actor whilst a schoolboy.
After  St Bees, Peter headed for the bright lights of London, where he worked for  Richard Ellis, qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 1965. He then returned to  the North eventually joining Storey Sons and Parker in Middlesbrough  subsequently becoming a partner in 1967.
Peter  was very active in the world of surveying and was Chairman of the North  Yorkshire and South Durham branch of the RICS in 1975 and the National Captain  of the Chartered Surveying Golfing Society in 1986.
He  represented Darlington Rugby Club from 1959 until 1969, having formerly played  for Rosslyn Park whilst in London. In cricket he represented Darlington Cricket  Club and was a minor counties representative for Buckinghamshire in 1958.
Peter  was a passionate golfer, playing off single figures for much of his career. He  played at Middlesbrough Golf Club. He was also a very proud and longstanding  member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
Peter  was Chairman of the North East Branch of the Old St Beghians for several years,  a role which he undertook with great enthusiasm.
        He is survived by his wife Pat and three sons, Andrew,  Stuart and Mark and five grandchildren.”
